Shopping for Products NOT Tested on Animals

This has become a challenging experience, but one worth doing. A few weeks ago I spent almost an hour at Target looking for makeup. I came away with foundation by ELF and night cream by Elba. Last week I spent time at the makeup counter at Rite Aid but came away empty-handed.

Today after church and before the Broncos vs Patriots football game I made a quick trip to Trader Joe’s.  Bingo, I came away with sunscreen, hand creme, body lotion, facial serum and general household cleaner.  I bought soap by Bisous de Provence and toothpaste by Tom’s.  I don’t do too well with the fragrance of lavender so I did not buy the high-efficiency laundry detergent.

Daisy Mae told me to remind you that I also bought Trader Joe’s dog biscuits. Luke, Trooper and Daisy Mae have approved the biscuits.  Purchasing dog biscuits that I knew were cruelty free was an important step.  Who knew that some pet food companies actually do inhumane testing?  I feel horrified ever since I viewed the undercover video shot by the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals.  Of all places, it was shot in the lab operated by the Iams Pet Food Company.  Take a trip to my Facebook page to view the video: https://www.facebook.comCoddleCreekPetServices

I posted the video on January 18.

I owe much of my education regarding this topic to the Beagle Freedom Project.  After viewing multiple heartwarming photos and videos of beagles entering freedom for the first time I went looking for the back story. You can learn more at their website: http://www.beaglefreedomproject.org/

Hold your breath and look what is routinely done to animals in the name of research at labs.   This is vivisection and if you or I did it to our dogs we would face criminal charges.

Here is my short list of what each of us can do.

  1. Educate yourself.
  2. Educate your family members, friends, neighbors and co-workers.
  3. Write your Congresswoman and Senators and ask them to ban animal testing.
  4. Go cruelty free with your cosmetics and household cleaning products.
  5. Contact the companies that still test on animals and tell them what you have done and the reasons behind your actions.
  6. And until animal testing is banned support organizations that help former lab animals adjust to a life outside the cage.

Our goal is to have all furbabies look as happy and loved as these two.

Happy Pets
